The VIVO Indian Premier League 2019 auction will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Hugh Edmeades will be replacing Richard Madley as the auctioneer for this year's auction.
Madley had been conducting the IPL player auctions since the inception of the tournament back in 2008. Edmeades, a British citizen, is an independent art, classic car and charity auctioneer.
With a new city and a new auctioneer, the IPL player auctions will have refreshed watching experience as 351 (228 Indian, 123 Overseas) cricketers will go under the hammer.

The auction will start at 2:30 PM IST, 9:00 AM GMT. Star Sports is the official television broadcaster of IPL in the Indian subcontinent.

Hotstar, the digital platform of Star India, will stream the auction live on its app and website. Sky Sports Cricket will stream the auction live in the UK.

All the eight teams representatives will arrive at the player's auction hoping to add to their squads of the retained players from the previous season.
The list of 351 players has been divided into eight categories based on their base prices ranging from 20 Lakh INR to 200 Lakh INR.
The 123 overseas players come from ten full member nations and two associate nations. South Africa have most players appearing in the auction, i.e., 27 while Australia follows up with 24 players.
According to a Cricbuzz report, there is a total of 70 slots available across all the eight teams. A maximum of 50 Indian cricketers can be picked while at most 20 overseas cricketers will find an IPL contract.
