After meeting in the League Cup only on Wednesday, Chelsea and Liverpool do battle once again on Saturday in the Premier League. On Wednesday a magical goal from Eden Hazard helped Chelsea beat Liverpool 2-1 to progress to the 4th round of the Carabao Cup. That defeat for Liverpool was their first of the season to end a run of seven wins in a row in all competitions. However, The Reds are currently top of the table with six wins from six and looking in imperious form and go to Stamford Bridge on the hunt to cement their position, although the Blues are also unbeaten too, having won five of their past six games, with only a draw last weekend at West Ham ending their 100% start.
Liverpool aiming for 7 from 7
Centre-Back Virgil van Dijk hasn't trained since being substituted last weekend with a rub injury, but hasn't been ruled out of the match just yet. Trent Alexander-Arnold has overcome illness, but Adam Lallana remains sidelined by a groin problem. Liverpool are looking to win their first seven matches for the first time since 1990-1991, when they finished runners-up to Arsenal. The only side to win their first seven matches in the Premier League era is Chelsea, who won their opening nine matches in 2005-2006. A win for The Reds would also see them win four successive away matches at the start of the season, a record also achieved in 1990-1991.
This season Liverpool have scored 10 first-half goals, the most in the league and are the only side yet to concede in the opening 45 minutes. The Reds record against their fellow top six sides doesn't make for good reading, with their only win in the past eight coming against Spurs this season (D3, L4). Mo Salah scored two goals in 19 appearances for Chelsea in 2014-2015, and has scored in four of his seven matches against the Blues for Basel and Liverpool.
Chelsea look to go top
Chelsea will monitor the fitness of Antonio Rudiger, who suffered a groin injury at West Ham on Sunday, whilst Pedro who missed that game with a shoulder problem remains a doubt, along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Should Chelsea win, it would be the first time since 2014-2015 under Jose Mourinho that they've won their opening four home matches.
Last season Chelsea earned 12 points from their 10 games against the other top six sides, although they didn't score more than once at Stamford Bridge in any of those fixtures. Chelsea frontman Olivier Giroud has scored five goals in the last six league matches against Liverpool, including the winner back in May. So far this season, Eden Hazard has been involved in the most Premier League goals, scoring five and setting up two.
This is the most-played fixture in English Football in the 21st century, with Saturday's encounter being the 58th time they've met since 2000. Liverpool have only won two of their past 15 matches in all competitions (D7, L6) at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool's run of 14 league games without a clean sheet against Chelsea is their longest against a single opponent in the top flight since a 17-match streak against Blackburn between 1947 and 1995.
With both sides unbeaten, something might have to give on Saturday!
