Once again, the football supporters will enjoy from the beginning of the best competition in Europe. If the last year Tottenham faced Real Madrid and Chelsea played against Atletico, this year the English teams have been drawn in highly competitive groups.
Perhaps, Tottenham will face the toughest opposition in a group integrated by Barcelona, Inter, and PSV, but the finalist Liverpool will try to avoid an early elimination against PSG and Napoli. Meanwhile, Manchester City has certainly been the luckiest Premier League representant in a group formed by Shaktar, Hoffenheim, and Lyon.
On the other hand, Manchester United will play Juventus, Valencia, and Young Boys. And despite the Spanish team has been resurrected by the manager Marcelino and indeed will be a hard team to beat, obviously the game between the English and the Italian has overshadowed everything in the group. At least for Cristiano Ronaldo, who will come again to play against the club where he was raised as one of the best footballers ever.
Liverpool face PSG
Even though the Reds reached the final in the last edition of the tournament, they had been assigned to the pot number 3, and therefore they will play against two powerful rivals, the PSG of Neymar and Mbappé and the Napoli of Ancelotti.
Nevertheless, the team managed by Klopp showed during the last year that they will not fear anyone, and as same as they did against Manchester City in Europe, they will try to beat again one of the favorites to win the tournament.
Apparently, it will be an interesting group to watch considering that those three teams play an offensive style of football.
In another hard group for an English team, Tottenham will face Barcelona, Inter, and PSV, but the team managed by Pochettino has been growing up during the last years and although they didn't but any player during the summer, they were capable to destroy Manchester United at Old Trafford by 0-3.
The final in Madrid
Among the fans of Atletico, it exists the feeling that the desire to lift the Champions League will come eventually. In fact, this year the final will be celebrated at the new stadium of Simeone's team, and this is an extra motivation the tournament for the first time in their history.
Starting in a group with Dortmund, Brugge, and Monaco, Atletico are clear favorites to finish on top of their group, and the Spanish team has been showing during the last years their effectiveness after the first round.
In fact, since Simeone came to the team in 2011, they have only been eliminated in the second round Champions League by Real Madrid, from 2014 until 2018.
Precisely, their rivals won't have Cristiano Ronaldo this year, indeed their talisman during so many seasons. And yet, with players such as Sergio Ramos, Modric, Kross, Bale, and Benzema, they want again show to the world their affair with the competition.
