FC Schalke 04's Leon Goretzka has been in inspired form during the 2017-18 campaign and has become one of Europe's most sought-after midfielders, and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger amongst others is believed to be a great admirer of his prominent services. The 22-year-old, amid the growing notable interest, will subsequently make a defining "decision" on his future in January, although his employers are prepared to table an eye-watering contractual offer to ensure that the German international prolongs his stay in Gelsenkirchen past the new year - according to a report published by Mirror.

Vying Parties

Wenger is supposedly planning to bolster his midfield contingent for the second half of the Premier League season and Goretzka, who has scored 4 goals in 11 domestic appearances this term for 'Die Konigsblauen', is said to be top of the Frenchman's wishlist. However, it's become evident that English rivals Manchester United are also closely monitoring the situation surrounding Goretzka. A fresh battle between 'Le Prof' and Jose Mourinho could emerge over the imminent transfer window, rather than in the technical area on match-day, as their respective set-ups slog it out against one another on the turf.

In Europe opposing outfits such as FC Barcelona, Juventus and FC Bayern Munich could also pose as worthy contenders in the chasing pack for Goretzka's desirable signature, so if the north-Londoners and indeed the Red Devils are ultimately going to land their prime target without a hitch, they'll have to surpass and fend off the enthusiasm culminating in La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga.

Renewal

Following Schalke's 2-2 draw with 1. FC Koln, Goretzka told reporters that he will have to "find out" himself what the "next step" in his career will be. Goretzka's standing deal terminates in the summer of 2018 and the play-maker also claimed that the "final decision" will be made in January. But in the bid to persuade the Bochum-born star to remain at the Veltins-Arena, Schalke are said to be willing to hand Goretzka a tantalisingly mega contract renewal.

The German's will offer a deal worth £150k-a-week with attainable bonuses and they are also scheming to include a substantial £50m buy-out clause. The proposed figures prove that Schalke is determined to button-down their club talisman for the foreseeable future, and if Goretzka was to hypothetically head for pastures new after penning the revised contract, baying suitors will have to break the bank if they're going to lure him from Domenico Tedesco's regiment.
