Fans of every Super League club always try to claim their stadium is the best. Whether it's because of the atmosphere, facilities or general matchday experience - it's very rare you hear a supporter say bad things about the ground they visit every other week.
So, to try and find out which venue people really do rate as the best in Super League, I've gone about it in probably the worst way possible and looked at how people rate them on TripAdvisor. It's only a bit of fun, so enjoy possibly the most pointless thing you will read all day...
=12. Stade Gilbert Brutus, Catalans Dragons - N/A
Super League fans love an away day and it's usually the hardcore supporters that will watch their team in Perpignan. Which probably explains why nobody has left a review for the Stade Gilbert Brutus. Proper Rugby League fans are passionate and love to show their emotions. You know who has no emotion? People who leave reviews on TripAdvisor.
=12. Beaumont Legal Stadium, Wakefield Trinity - N/A
Not one person has left a review for Wakefield's Belle Vue Stadium. Is it really that bad? We thought someone, somewhere would have found something to complain about at a ground which, let's be honest, is not exactly in the best state.
=12. Select Security Stadium, Widnes Vikings - N/A
Again, there are no reviews at all for the home stadium of the Widnes Vikings. This is even more surprising given the ground is used for reserve Premier League football, but no, nothing from anyone.
9. AJ Bell Stadium, Salford Red Devils - 3.5
Supporters are content with their visit to Salford’s AJ Bell Stadium, which also hosts Sale Sharks’ home matches.
There have been 61 reviews of the ground overall, with the majority of them rating their experience as good.
Alanlacey, Prestwich: “The biggest issue with this stadium is location and access - car parking is poor (at £5 per car) and it takes an age to get away after the match - particularly if Salford are playing a popular team.”
8. KCOM Stadium, Hull FC - 4.0
Home to Hull FC and Hull City, the KCOM Stadium gets a decent review on TripAdvisor.
From the reviews left by Rugby League fans, the majority of people have opted to rate the venue very good, which seems a fair analysis.
Owyerbin, Birmingham: “First trip to a league game as I'm definitely a Union guy... Cross between a football crowd and a proper game of rugby. I really enjoyed it (although I may have a different perspective if I were a Hull person - Leeds won convincingly) but as a soft southerner, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the ground. Reasonably priced too!”
7. Emerald Headingley Stadium, Leeds Rhinos - 4.0
Now on TripAdvisor, the rating for Headingley is combined with the Cricket Ground and there is no way to differentiate between the two. There have been 184 reviews combined with just under half rating their experience as excellent.
Biffo4444, Reading: “First time to see rugby league live. Great atmosphere and very friendly crowd. Basic ground with wood plank seats so bring a cushion. Unique shared stand with cricket ground. A great evening and the Rhinos won.”
6. DW Stadium, Wigan Warriors - 4.0
There are an impressive 220 reviews for the DW Stadium, which is the home of both Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic. The ground receives a lot of positive feedback on TripAdvisor with 45% rating their visit as very good and 39% as excellent.
RobbieB, Stockport: “This was my first visit to see a game of Rugby League and watched the local lads. Access was easy and well organised with plenty of nearby car parking available. There was some pitch entertainment to keep the crowd happy during the run-up to the start of the game with local school teams being given the honour of standard bearers.
Overall a very enjoyable experience - even though Wigan lost.”
5. KCOM Craven Park, Hull KR - 4.5
Recently promoted back to Super League, Hull KR’s Craven Park has received only four reviews on TripAdvisor. The reviews that have been left though are very positive!
Marmaduke1, Gainsborough: “What a fantastic day, the service had been brilliant, the food had been brilliant as too was the company. My team had won and we all went home fully satisfied in every aspect.”
4. Mend-A-Hose Jungle, Castleford Tigers - 4.5
Seven people have reviewed their trip to the Jungle and all of them are very satisfied with their experience. It’s one of the sport's oldest and most traditional grounds and while the facilities may not be up to date, there is no doubting Wheldon Road generates a superb atmosphere.
GedCT, Chesterfield: “The ticket booking process was pretty straightforward and although the ground looks old in some places, it's still a great place to watch live sport and much better than new venues where you are too far away from the action.”
3. John Smith’s Stadium, Huddersfield Giants - 4.5
As we know the John Smith's Stadium is the home of both Huddersfield Giants and Premiership football outfit Huddersfield Town. There have been a number of reviews left by Rugby League fans and, on the whole, they are very complimentary.
Dughall, Holmfirth: “The stadium is well-designed and offers comfortable viewing and modern facilities. The corporate side is excellent. However, for whatever reason, (maybe the 'openness' of the stands or the gaps in the corners) it never really seems to get a good atmosphere going, even with a full-house.
Shame really.”
2. Halliwell Jones Stadium, Warrington Wolves - 4.5
A modern-day ground that creates a great atmosphere, what's not to like? Since Warrington moved to the Halliwell Jones Stadium in 2004 they have made great progress and it’s a stadium that away fans love to visit. Sixty percent of people rate the venue as excellent.
WarwickA, London: “I went to the recent World Club Challenge where my team Brisbane were taking on Warrington. The stadium is small compared to anything in Australia (unless a suburban stadium) but would rate it as one of the best experiences watching Rugby League.”
1. Totally Wicked Stadium, St Helens - 4.5
With 111 reviews to date, the Totally Wicked Stadium is one of very few modern-day purpose-built rugby league stadiums, with excellent facilities.
Unsurprisingly, it has many good reviews from fans, especially those with children, who recognise the club's commitment to creating a great family day experience.
EveandAl: “Went to our first rugby league match earlier in the season. Great modern stadium. You can't beat the crowd, very welcoming and passionate fans but always willing to have a chat and a bit of banter. Pies were good too!”
