Player rating verdict

Diego Costa has yet to register any minutes this season for Chelsea but still finds himself firmly inside the top 100 players on FIFA 18.

He is joined by fellow Chelsea and Spanish team-made Azpilicueta, who comes in at 76. Does Costa deserve to be where he is? Going off last season's performances (which FIFA 18 has to do), then yes of course, but if he doesn't get more time on the field this season he will be expected to drop considerably on FIFA 19.

Two Arsenal players make the second batch, with newly signed Lacazette joining ageing goalkeeper Petr Cech. Lacazette joined Arsenal in this summer's transfer window for a club-record transfer fee.

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen comes in at 80 and is the second Spurs player to feature after Dele Alli was named in the first batch of FIFA 18 top players.

Expected number 1

With the countdown to the top 10, and ultimately the release of the best player in FIFA 18, we take a look at who is expected to take number 1 spot.

Ronaldo of Real Madrid, Messi from Barcelona, and Neymar of PSG are the three favourite contenders to top spot. However, it is Ronaldo who pips his fellow competitors after receiving the recent Ballon d'Or 2017 and winning the Euro 2016 tournament in France with Portugal.
