Could the EFL cup spring a surprise?
Manchester United head into the final in great form winning in Europe and in the FA cup but form does not count for anything as the final could spring a surprise. Southampton will want to win their first piece of Silverware in over 30 years but Mourinho's side has strength and depth that can't be matched. The likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba could be too much for Southampton, the Saints currently sit in 13th place in the league but will be fully focused on ending Man United's chance of a domestic and European treble.
Recent form would suggest that Man United should dominate the match but previous finals have shown that anything can happen.
Manchester United should dominate?
Big spending Man United have the fire power and ability to walk away with the trophy but their Premier League form shows that they need to be more clinical in front of goal drawing nine games already. Ibrahimovic and Pogba are the main threat the Southampton goal but could Wayne Rooney feature in the final, Rooney has been left out of the side but the 31-year-old still has plenty to offer the side with his pace and goal scoring ability. If Man United win the EFL Cup, it will give Mourinho's side a sense of relief and allow them to focus on Europe and the Premier League.
Mourinho has tended to field a strong side in all competitions and I don't think that will change.
Could the Saints surprise the Red Devils?
Southampton will be no push over, as they are well organised defensively but also possess a attacking threat on the counter attack. Claude Puel's men will look to stop the form of Man United and bring some silverware back to the south coast that has been missing for some time.
Shane Long's attacking ability could give the Saints hope as the oppositions defence can become nervous when under threat. Fraser Forster will give a solid base to the team and could be in goal for penalties if it comes to that. The surprise of the Saints midfield is the resurgence of Oriol Romeu who has played a crucial role in the middle of the park.
