Myanmar stuns Malaysia with victory in Yangon. Despite only needing a draw from yesterday's match the traditional minnows were not expected to beat the Malays. The Thuwanna stadium was near full to capacity and the crowd played their part as the twelfth man. Drums beating and chants created a hostile atmosphere for the Malay team who in spite of the noise created enough chances to win. The 2010 winners of the AFF Suzuki Cup were left to rue what might have been at the final whistle. Myanmar however, are reveling in their new found success.
Group B finish
Myanmar finished second in their group and will face Thailand in the semi-finals. The match was played at a high tempo with both teams pressing in the first half. Malaysia had a glorious chance to find an opening but Hazwan Bakri having beaten goalkeeper Kyaw Zin Phyo with a curling shot was denied by the right-hand post.
The Burmese striker Aung Thu had a game he will never forget first missing a penalty and then striking the woodwork in the 44th minute. However, the Myanmar striker put it behind and was one of the stars of the evening. The second half was played at a lesser pace to the surprise of many but in the 89th minute David Htan scored to send the Thuwanna stadium wild and send Myanmar into the semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup
Myanmar will meet Thailand on the 4th of December for the first leg.
