Manchester United winger Ashley Young could be on his way out of the club if the price is right according to the Macnhester Evening NewsThis comes after a season where he was considered one of United’s best performers, reducing United’s £59.7m record signing Angel Di Maria to a substitute role and posting a series of impressive matches, capping it off with standout performances in wins against Crystal Palace and local rivals Manchester City. Originally it was reported that Young was to sign a new deal with the club which would have added threemore years to his current contract, however it seems that contract talks have not progressed very far and his future is up fordebate.

The red devils are stacked in the wingers department, boasting the likes of Adnan Januzaj, Angel Di Maria, Antonio Valencia and new signing Memphis Depay. United have been consistently linked with Barcelona’s Pedrowho is another winger and this might suggest that Manchester United are preparing for the possibility of Young’s departure. Currently Young is on tour in America with the club and it’s likely that nothing will be sorted until the team returns to the UK. The winger has acknowledged that his place in the squad isn’t guaranteed and has gone down on record stating: “You’ll have to ask the club that” when asked about his contract situation per the guardian.

The lack of development in Young’s contract situation has allowed transfer rumours to swirl around with various sources reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on his services.

This could prove to be a coup for Spursas Young managed to find the form that led to his Old Trafford switch from Aston Villa after a couple of frustrating seasons in the red shirt.

The departure of Ashley Young may not necessarily be a huge loss for United but will definitely come off as surprising, given the number of positions the winger excelled in last season.

The winger managed to register two goals and five assists which has been his best return since his debut season at the club.

Young himself is fully focused on new season having said: “This is a new season and I have to take the confidence that I had and build on it again.”
