West Ham United have set their sights on Marseille superstar, Andre-Pierre Gignac, who is available on a free transfer at the end of the season. The Frenchman has bagged 18 goals in Ligue One this term and has 20 goals in all competitions.
Lack of quality
With Sam Allardyce's men out of form and struggling for goals this term, they are in desperate need for some extra fire power. The likes of Diafra Sakho, Enner Valencia and Andy Carroll have all failed to impress over the whole season with Sakho leading the clubs' scoring charts with just 12 goals.
It is certainly one area of the team which is in need of some new blood and the signing of the 29-year-old French international could prove to be a sensational coup.
Gignac is a renowned goal scorer whose physical style of play will surely fit the Premier League as his aerial threat and excellent hold up play will be vital in matching the direct format in which the Hammers use.
Goal machine
Marseille were title challengers for the majority of the French campaign but have slipped off the pace in recent weeks. Much of their strong run of form in the early stages was down to the big Frenchman whose link up play with the like of Dimitri Payet and Florian Thauvin has seen him light up the league and become the second top goal scorer this season behind Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette.
His contract is set to expire in the summer but the East London club will have a lot of competition for his services but they would be able to afford his wages and certainly a move to the Premier League will appeal to Gignac.
Targets
The Hammers are known to be looking for a striker in the upcoming transfer window and have been highly linked with Manchester United's Javier Hernandez who is currently on loan at Real Madrid.
Many West Ham fans see him as their ideal target and a possible link up with the Marseille striker could be a possibility next season.
It all depends on what happens in the summer with the manager's job in the balance and it will be about the new philosophies brought in. Both players are sure to give the fans a lot of optimism and they will certainly be sought after in the summer by a number of clubs in Europe.
