What better feeling than that of snuggling up on the sofa with a cup of hot cocoa or any other warm drink and watch a Christmas movie when it's winter and it's cold outside? Do you enjoy watching a romantic comedy as much as me this time of year? One of the things I struggle with the most is choosing which Christmas movie to watch: there is just so many to pick from! Let me make it easier for you: here is a list of the best 5 Christmas romcoms I've ever watched. You can thank me later.
5. "A Christmas Prince" (2017)
Released by Netflix in November 2017, this brand new romantic comedy stars Rose McIver and Ben Lamb.
It follows a young undercover reporter who is asked to untangle the mystery surrounding the Prince of Moldova, and in order to get the scoop, she lives in the castle pretending to be the princess's tutor. The journalist inevitably falls in love with a Sa'id Prince and lives a fairytale-like romance with him, even though the couple has to endure several complications in order to live happily ever after.
4. "Why Him?" (2016)
This film by 20th Century Fox is a modern comedic spin on Christmas romantic comedies. Stephanie Fleming is a young Stanford student who is dating a very eccentric millionaire, and when her parents find out she wants to drop out of Stanford to do some volunteer work they immediately blame Laird, the boyfriend.
Stephanie's dad especially doesn't like Laird, but the two eventually become friends and set their differences aside. This movie is extremely funny, and James Franco's interpretation of Laird is flawless. I suggest you watch this movie if you feel like having a laugh!
3. "Love Actually" (2003)
This absolute classic is one of those movies everyone should watch at least once in their lifetime (or once a year during winter if you're like me).
The movie follows several different storylines, and each storyline follows a very different love story. From rekindled romances to brand new loves, every part of the film is heartwarming and makes you want to believe that love really does come in different shapes and forms. Bonus: who doesn't want to watch a movie starring BOTH Hugh Grant and Colin Firth??
2. "Serendipity" (2001)
Do you believe in destiny? Or better, serendipity? If you do, then this is the perfect movie for you! And if you don't, after watching this 2001 film I'm pretty sure you will. A man and a woman meet one night, they go out and have the best time of their lives but Sara Thomas, the woman, decides to leave their next encounter to destiny by writing her phone number in a book and selling it at a random bookstore in New York. Will they meet again and fall in love or will they never see each other again?
1. "The Holiday" (2006)
This is the best Christmas movie rom-com fans will ever watch! Two very different women, one editor from outside London (Kate Winslet) and one businesswoman from L.A.
(Cameron Diaz) have both been extremely unlucky in love. They meet through a home exchange website and decide to switch houses for the Christmas holidays so that they can get a breather from their very complicated love lives. Their objective is to spend a holiday without seeing or even thinking about men, but it results harder than it should be.
So there you go, these are the best five Christmas romcoms I have ever watched. I watch "The Holiday" so often my friends tease me for it, but I can't stop watching it! This holiday season, take some time away from your hectic life to just relax and enjoy one of these five movies. You won't regret it!
