Warner Bros. has finally selected September 28, 2018, as the release date for Bradley Cooper's directorial debut, a new version of musical drama 'A Star Is Born'. Based on William Wellman’s 1937 film, starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, 'Star' is about a famous actor who helps an aspiring actress become famous, while his own career declines. Cooper's 22 and Green production company will helm the film, alongside producers Jon Peters, Bill Gerber and Basil Iwanyk.

'A Star Is Born' has been remade twice:

First with James Mason and Judy Garland in 1954, and then with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in 1976 (also produced by Peters).

The film originated as a project for Beyonce and Clint Eastwood (Unforgiven, Changeling, Sully), who had been attempting for years to make the film, with Cooper in the role of the fading film star, but eventually left the project following Beyonce's pregnancy causing delays. He instead suggested to Cooper that he direct, as the 41 year old actor was seeking his first directorial project. Meanwhile, Eastwood directed another musical, the 2014 adaptation of Broadway hit 'Jersey Boys'. Cooper had collaborated with Eastwood previously on the 2014 war drama, 'American Sniper', in the lead role of controversial sniper Chris Kyle.

Lady Gaga has already made a name for herself as one of the world’s most popular musicians, but 'Star Is Born' is her latest foray into acting.

Even before having a critically acclaimed performance in 'American Horror Story: Hotel,' earning her a 2015 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries in the process, Lady Gaga has appeared in many films and TV shows.

These include, but are not limited to 'The Simpsons' (2012), 'Machete Kills' (2013), 'Muppets: Most Wanted' (2014) and 'Sin City: A Dame To Kill For' (2014). She even had an uncredited role in an episode of iconic US crime drama 'The Sopranos', back in 2001. She also appears in the new season of AHS, entitled 'American Horror Story: Roanoke', and has been on 'Saturday Night' live three times.
