With the Academy Awards' ceremony on the horizon, many aspiring young (and old) actors and actresses will be busily dreaming of a potential future in Hollywood, but for one young Liverpudlian actress she has instead put her efforts towards making it big in Bollywood. The decision seems to have paid off handsomely for 23-year-old Amy Jackson, who has become a major star in feature films in India.

Her latest Film, intriguingly titled I, is the costliest and highest-grossing film that she has been involved with to date after its release in January, but she has already been well-received by Asian fans for her past films, despite her English background.

She was talent-spotted way back in 2009 by the top Bollywood director, AL Vijay, when she appeared at and won the Miss Teen World Beauty pageant. Although she had no previous acting experience to rely on at the time, he decided that she would be perfect for his film called Madraspattinam as the female lead, a Tamil period-drama which was released in 2010. She recalls that he had asked her at the time if she could dance (an essential ingredient for actresses to perform in many Bollywood films) to which she had replied (blagged) in the affirmative, although in truth she had only done so on nights out in her home city of Liverpool.

She has had to graft to attain her celebrity status in India though, as despite being dubbed when she performs her roles, she has had to learn the language of Tamil and at one time was working 20-hour days to further her acting ambitions.

It has paid off though, as she can now enjoy the attentions of stylists, assistants, bodyguards and a housekeeper to boot, with a luxury flat to live in that overlooks the picturesque Arabian Sea.

She admitted to the Mail on Sunday that she does have to handle the attention of the general public on occasions in India, where she has been mobbed in the past.

Also, as with most top actresses, she does receive a number of marriage proposals from her admiring fans.

Born on the Isle of Man, her family moved back to Liverpool when she was just two years old. Besides the Miss Teen World title, she was also the winner of the Miss Liverpool title in 2010, as she combined acting in India with her modelling career, which she had started doing at the age of sixteen.

Her first actual Bollywood release was in 2012, when she featured in a romantic film called Ekk Deewana Tha

Although not confirmed in the role, Jackson has also been shooting for a BBC drama series recently. Her modelling career has also seen her featured in the Maxim magazine in the past.
