Shakira and Gerard Pique have increased their family. The Colombian-born singer has given birth to a baby boy, named Sacha in a caesarean delivery in Teknon clinic in Barcelona, as scheduled. A clinical act that had followed the same rules as the first one, Milan, with only women being allowed to be in the surgical ward, with the exception of the plastic surgeon who had signed a confidentiality agreement. The team was led by the gynaecologist Carlota Garcia-Valdecasas, daughter of the specialist who gave birth to the four children of the Infanta Cristina.
The baby was born about ten o'clock Thursday night, and both mother and newborn are doing well and resting at the hospital, according to the news agency Efe. The singer entered the hospital around seven p.m., but avoided the many cameras that had stayed for hours at the hospital doors.
This is the second child for the couple, who in 2013 said "hello" to their first son, Milan, who last February 22nd celebrated his second birthday. The family decided to celebrate that date in style with a party at the hotel Juan Carlos I in Barcelona before the arrival of their new member. The meeting was attended by both the family and much of the staff of Barcelona. While the player has continued with his training and playing matches with the team, the singer has not been on stage for quite some time.
The months of waiting for their second child were used to record what will be her eleventh studio album.
On January 19th the couple launched on social networks a baby shower (a typical party where the expectant mother receives a gift) to raise funds for disadvantaged children. The project was accompanied by images of the family which illustrated how heavily pregnant the singer was.
As they did with the first pregnancy, and in collaboration with UNICEF (an organization of which the singer is an ambassador), the couple prefered gifts for ones who are more in need. So, they encouraged their followers through the social networks to buy vaccines for measles and polio, blankets or therapeutic food, and for future mothers-to-be to organize their own parties.
With their first son, Milan, they achieved 3.8 tons of therapeutic food, 80,000 vaccines and 1,000 mosquito nets.
"Motherhood is everything for me. Becoming a mother has changed me in subtle but important ways," the singer said in a recent interview with El Pais. Shakira also confessed that she felt any mother's fears, and expressed her desire to see Milan interact with his younger brother.
The couple met each other before the World Cup in South Africa when Piqué participated in the video recording of the famous song Waka Waka. In February 2011 and due to the constant pursuit of the paparazzi, they made their relationship official by releasing a photograph on their Twitter accounts where they could be seen with a group of friends celebrating their birthdays.
