This is the time of Fat blogging, fat young women blogging about being fat, fighting for Plus size clothes to be added to every designer’s collection, the right not to be discriminated against, not to be fat shamed, and in some cases to not even be called fat. It’s all about body positivity - “the idea that by being fat, you are intrinsically unhealthy. This is false.” wrote Bethany Rutter, a fat bodies, plus-size fashion and body positivity blogger, on dazeddigital.com recently.

Clearly she’s not a scientist. “Obesity is one of the most important modifiable risk factors for a number of major diseases, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke and several common cancers.” Ministry of Health NZ. She then went onto attack clothes shop Zara for calling their models in their current campaign Love Your Curves for being too thin. Fat activists are now thin shaming! Seriously!

You’re fat because you eat too much of the wrong Food, too much sugar, bad fats and salt. There’s plenty of evidence out there, thatsugarfilm.com is one of the best resources available; “It has become clear to me that in the search for profits, the food companies are not only targeting our primary desire for sugar, but are also insisting that all calories are equal.

The result is that we feel like failures if we’re addicted or overweight. Perhaps the greed that is actually making us overweight and sick is of the corporate variety.”

It's All About Addiction

The food corporations have figured out how to make us addicted to their food by loading it with sugar. “Some of the largest companies are now using brain scans to study how we react neurologically to certain foods, especially to sugar. They've discovered that the brain lights up for sugar the same way it does for cocaine.” Michael Moss, Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us. The resulting fat is just the side effect many are willing to overlook. Fat is fat, and being fat is bad for you. You can’t dress it up in swish retro full skirts and tattoos with lots of makeup, you can’t even disguise it with comedy.

We’re not free or liberated, this is not feminism, we’re sugar addicts and we’re fat. We’re fat and getting fatter.

Of course the food corporations are famous for saying they don't intend you to drink/eat their unhealthy food every day, ‘just use it a treat,’ that way they can’t be accused of making you fat. The tobacco companies used similar methods in the 70’s. They had dodgy science on their side. Now the food corporations have fat bloggers to support them, they must be laughing all the way to the bank.

We’re Talking Fat Realism Here

There’s a new saying out there called fat phobia, it’s a good comeback from fat people. No, I’m not fat phobic, I’m a fat realist. I’m concerned about the food corporations targeting young kids with sport sponsored junk foods and sugar laden drinks.

They’re being groomed to be fat adults, just like their parents.

If being fat makes you feel happy then fine, and if you feel this is about empowerment you’re right, it’s the food corporations’ empowerment, not yours.
