In honour of “the party atmosphere” that Great Western Railway’s bosses expect to permeate throughout Windsor on the day of the royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on the 19th of May, they have announced that they will be giving away 60,000 chocolates and a thousand boxes of confetti for free to their passengers on the day.
However, GWR did add on a less positive note that their service was expecting “sizeable” queues due to “very high demand” for travel to the wedding.
It is reported that over 100,000 tourists will be visiting Windsor on the day of the wedding, so you’ll only get your free chocolate and confetti if you’re lucky enough to even get on a train that day. And who wants to eat chocolate when they’re packed into a dense, sweaty crowd of commuters on a train carriage? This is a classic example of leading with the good news.
GWR are also giving away 10,000 free bottles of water
GWR also announced more quietly that they would be giving away 10,000 free bottles of water on top of the thousands of free chocolates and boxes of confetti, and a drink of water is something that will come in useful if you’re packed into a crowded train or stuck in an excruciatingly long line, so maybe they should’ve led with that.
