The other day, Prince Harry announced his engagement to American actress Meghan Markle, and the media haven’t given them a minute to breathe ever since. But who is Markle? She played Rachel Zane in the US TV comedy-drama series “Suits” and Special Agent Amy Jessup in the sci-fi show “Fringe,” which was produced and co-created by JJ Abrams.
Markle also used to get by as a freelance calligrapher. She was born and raised in Los Angeles and received a degree in theater and international studies from Northwestern University. Now that she’s marrying into royalty, she has pledged to retire from acting and devote her time to charity work towards humanitarian causes.
When asked in today’s TV interview what Harry’s late mother Princess Diana would think of his new fiancée, he said that they would get along swimmingly. He said the pair would be “as thick as thieves, without question,” and that Diana would be “over the moon” with joy.
Markle’s parents are ‘incredibly happy’ about the engagement
Markle’s parents, her father Thomas Markle and her mother Doria Ragland, have said that they are “incredibly happy” about the engagement of Prince Harry and their daughter. Markle’s father has won Emmy Awards as a lighting director for television production, having worked on really great shows like “Married...with Children” and some not-so-great shows like “General Hospital.” Ragland is a yoga instructor who Thomas Markle married in 1979 and later divorced in 1988.
