Cassandra Steele, a Canadian actress with a British/Filipino background, is set to feature in the Disney movie called "Raya and the Last Dragon". Cassandra Steele will voice Raya in the Film.
Disney decided to create a film that will influence the SouthEast Asian culture theme. From the storyline and the characters, the movie is set to inspire and portray the culture of the Asian community.
Cassandra Steele
Cassandra was born in Ontario Canada, on 2nd of December 1984, her father Robin Steele is from Britain and her mother Lily Steele is from the Philippines.
Cassandra started her career by making commercials for Fib Finder a board game company, in 2001. In that same year, she also did TV series appearances she appeared in an episode of "Relic Hunter".
When she was eleven years old, she joined the cast of "Degrassi: The Next Generation" as well as three of the other Degrassi films.
While she was still working on her Degrassi films she was also featured in a Disney film called "Full Court Miracle", which is about a basketball star Lamont Carr, as well as other TV shows such as "Super sweet 16: The Movie" which is about rich teenagers who are going to throw an extravagant birthday party for their sweet 16, and "My Babysitter’s a Vampire" which is a Canadian TV show.
Singer and songwriter
She is not only an actress that has played in a lot of movies and TV series but she is also a musician, she debuted an album called "How Much For Happy" back in 2005, and another one called "Destructo Doll" in July 2009.
Raya and the Last Dragon
Last week at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, Disney revealed that they will be releasing an animated movie called "Raya and the Last Dragon which is set to release in November 2020.
The writer of this Disney movie is Adele Lim, she also wrote one of the biggest blockbuster movies "Crazy Rich Asians" in which Awkwafina (who is going to be acting in this Disney movie as well) also acted. Adele also wrote for tv shows like "One Tree Hill" and "Lethal Weapon."
The main character Raye is going to be played by Cassandra and Awkwafina will be playing the voice of the Dragon.
Southeast Asia influence
This movie is inspired by Southeast Asia, the writers and the producer of this Disney movie are from SouthEast Asian countries. The setting of this film is going to be in a fictional kingdom called ‘Kumandra’, in which according the producer of the film Shurer, is “a reimagined earth inhabited by an ancient civilization that venerated the mythical dragons for their power and their wisdom.” According to the CNA report.
There are five clans for the Land of the Dragon but the dragons are gone and Kumandra has been invaded by an evil force.
Next year there will be two releases for Disney movies that almost have the same theme one of them is "Mulan" and the other one is "Raya and the Last Dragon."
