Bollywood movie “Sanju,” the biopic of actor Sanjay Dutt was released across the world on June 29, 2018. The Film was released on 4000 screens in India and 1300 screens in 65 other countries.

The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Dia Mirza, and Sonam Kapoor in the lead roles. Vicky Kaushal, Jim Sarbh, and Anushka Sharma have special appearances.

A huge buzz has been created, and the movie is expected to break all records and collect an excess of Rs 30 crores (3.3 million pounds) on its opening day. Raj Kumar Hirani who gave us such memorable hits such as "PK" and "Three Idiots" has played a big gamble by choosing to make a biopic of Sanjay Dutt.

Sanju, as Sanjay Dutt is lovingly known to have led a life which was like an open book. There were many turning points in the actor’s turbulent history, and each event stood out starkly and was dissected by the media to its barest details. It will be a tough task for Ranbir Kapoor to re-enact Sanju's life and the audience will be closely watching every scene.

The hype around the flick is at its peak, and although the songs have not been a big deal, it is undoubtedly going to be an emotional roller coaster and endear to the audiences. The flick did not have any shortage of hype right from the day Raj Kumar Hirani decided to make it.

There were some doubts about how Ranbir would get into the role of the wild and controversial actor.

However, when the posters came out, Ranbir looked the exact clone of the deadly Dutt. Even the lazy eye which was characteristic of Sanjay when he was high on drugs was correctly reproduced by Ranbir. Finally, when the teaser was out, there was no doubt, Ranbir was tailor-made for this role.

Public response to the film

Box-office collections

According to the Times of India, the advance bookings have been great and the film will collect at least Rs 30 crores on day one.

Coming back to the box office predictions, the flick must rake in at least Rs 250 crores (28 million pounds) to be declared a hit. Ranbir’s last venture”Jagoo Jasoos” was a disaster and earned only Rs 83 crores (9.2 million pounds). It was made with a huge budget of Rs 131 crores (14.5 million pounds). However, fans are still betting on the acting talents of the youngest scion of the Kapoor clan.

Well-known brand expert Harish Bijoor feels that “Sanju” will be the second incarnation of Ranbir and if reviews are correct, it has all the ingredients to become a blockbuster.

Twitter reaction

Anushka Sharma, the lead heroine of the film took to Twitter and wrote, "Playing @RajkumarHirani sir’s spirit character in #Sanju was so fun! This movie is his labour of love... go watch it guys"

There were some negative reviews as well from people who saw the movie's early morning show.

One wrote, "Sanjay Dutt admits sleeping with hundreds of women in the trailer. Not surprised how Hirani conveniently left out the part where he abuses them too. After all, its supposed to glorify a monster. Well done. You have made a masterpiece."
