“Pulp Fiction” producer Harvey Weinstein has found himself in a lot of hot water recently as many actresses have come forward with allegations of sexually inappropriate behaviour, “abuse of power,” and taking advantage of budding young performers. It’s lost him his job at his own company, and all the other power players of Hollywood have publicly expressed their disgust at his actions.
Jessica Chastain, Mark Ruffalo, Meryl Streep, and more have spoken out
Jessica Chastain, now an actor with the power to get her own passion projects made, said that she was “warned from the beginning” about Weinstein’s behaviour. “Avengers” actor Mark Ruffalo has called Weinstein’s actions “a disgusting abuse of power and horrible,” and expressed his hopes that this is “the beginning of the end of these abuses.”
Meryl Streep condemned Weinstein’s actions as “disgraceful” and “appalling,” and said that the victims of his abuse who spoke out to put an end to it are “heroes.” Judi Dench, who won an Oscar for Weinstein’s production of “Shakespeare in Love,” said that what he did was “horrifying.” Meanwhile, director Kevin Smith, whose career was championed from the get-go by Harvey Weinstein, said he feels “ashamed” that while he made money from Weinstein’s business, many women were “in terrible pain” at the same hands.
