Only a couple of weeks ago, we discussed how Legendary Entertainment have been dropping frequent, albeit rather small, morsels of information pertaining to their developing MonsterVerse, which is an MCU style enterprise currently comprised of "Godzilla 2014" and "Kong: Skull Island". Indeed, within a very short space of time, the studio revealed the director of their upcoming film "Godzilla vs King Kong" (You're Next's Adam Wingard) and also unveiled a smattering of new cast members for "Godzilla: King of the Monsters."
Press release for "Godzilla 2" teases new information
It was almost as if a new character actor was attached to the latter production on a daily basis, with Bradley Whitford, Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, O’Shea Jackson Jr and Charles Dance all getting on board with the project.
With these announcements coming out at such an exponential rate, it was only a matter of time before Legendary finally let some story details slip.ccording to
According to Collider.com, the studio has now done exactly that, teasing the plot synopsis via a still-relatively ambiguous press release.
"King of the Monsters" now has an official plot synopsis
Little can be meaningfully extrapolated from this official press brief, as it features very little in the way of detail and offers no information in the slightest about the human characters, or indeed who will play them. It only covers the basic premise of the film, summarising that Godzilla will fight Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah, while the government agency known as Monarch desperately tries to mitigate the collateral damage.
This rough outline of the story is something that we've been aware of for quite some time, nevertheless, it is nice to have the information come directly from the horse's mouth.
More creatures, more action, more fun
What can be ascertained from the summary however, is that this sequel (which is slated for release in March 2019) will build upon the scale of its 2014 predecessor by adding more classic creatures into the mix and getting them to duke it out for super-species dominance. With four iconic monsters placed in the centre of what is sure to be a spectacular brawl, it does seem like "King of the Monsters" will be embracing its creature-feature identity, perhaps in an effort to please those who felt short-changed by the 2014 film's lack of pay-off.
Additionally, Collider excitedly reported that this press release was timed to coincide with the beginning of the film's production, as shooting has now commenced in Atlanta.
