Hot on the heels of a very successful album, The Pale Emperor, American shock rocker Marilyn Manson has just received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Britain's very own Kerrang!. The ceremony, which also honoured Judas Priest with the Inspiration Award, Alice Cooper with the Legend Award and BabyMetal with the Spirit of Independence Award, was held this Thursday night in London. The Relentless Kerrang! Awards are awarded after thousands of votes and happen every year.
When asked if he still had a hard rock lifestyle or was now more relaxed, the 46-years-old rocker showed his fist to the reporter, saying "does that answer your question?".
Then, Marilyn Manson revealed he doesn't drink absinthe anymore, which is relevant - he has developed his own brand of the alcoholic beverage, Mansinthe, and he used to get "inspired" to paint by it. Why does he say he gave up on it? "Only because it had too much sugar in it so it made me too hyper," he explained.
Now, for the funny part: the "Rock is dead" singer added he needed to come down, so he made a switch to marijuana and vodka. "Yap, that's sober for me," he stated, only half jokingly.
Manson's career has flourished over more than two decades and ranges from singing, songwriting and playing instruments to painting and acting. He's credited with influencing a number of acts, including Lady Gaga, and was famously married to Dita Von Teese.
Now on The Hell not Hallelujah Tour, Manson is set to perform a number of European shows, stopping by the UK this weekend for the Download Festival. He and his band will then tour with Smashing Pumpkins in the U.S.
At the Kerrang! awards, the event had, of course, a black carpet instead of red. It was held at Troxy Theater in London and presented by Andrew W.K.
and Benji Webbe, from Welsh band Skindred. They handed out awards for a number of acts, including Black Veil Brides for Best Live Band and All Time Low for Best International Band – beating big names such as Fall Out Boy, Slipknot, AC/DC and Sleeping with Sirens. PVRIS was named Best Newcomer and Best Fanbase went to Pierce the Veil fans, coming first against some fierce competitors - from My Chemical Romance's Killjoys to All Time Low's Hustlers. The complete list of winners can be checked at Kerrang's website.
