What went wrong?

If Hilary got more votes, then surely something is wrong with democracy? The Electoral College system in place will have people elected who don't have the most votes. So change is necessary, to stop this happening again. How can a country be so divided? Has fear been peddled so successfully for the last two years? We cannot even claim to be surprised. I'm not. We could see it coming, just maybe a little faster than we knew. Just like Brexit hit us right where it hurt, but we only saw what we wanted to see. The lessons and wake up calls are just beginning.

Fear and the media have played such a huge part in this result. It makes for blood boiling results, when stories of fear, have gotten further than common sense. Media stories need to be looked at, journalism needs a rethink, why did they allow a narrative that was so off the mark. Sensational stories get shared, more air time and popularity than any piece of common sense.

The Simpsons predict the future again

It's clear Donald has had his fair share of air time, and as the saying goes, "No publicity, is bad!" So it seems. What can we learn? After all, we are not in a live show of The Simpsons, who did see a trump win coming, so it seems. In a day and age where social media rules the discussions and news is based on a media led narrative which can be as distorted as a plastic pruned, tanned man of business (even failed ones), who claims to be the answer to America's problems.

He will never be the answer. A Republican with no boundaries. He

He will never be the answer. A Republican with no boundaries. He marginalises and promotes discrimination.

This man with a distinct lack of taste, or fairness, seems to have screwed the system, if that system is meant to protect people, protect equality, protect education, health and so on. It seems what started out as a joke or even a hobby for Trump, has given us one very bored winner.

The reality

A Republican with no boundaries. He marginalises and promotes discrimination. This man with a distinct lack of taste, or fairness, seems to have screwed the system, if that system is meant to protect people, protect equality, protect education, health and so on. It seems what started out as a joke or even a hobby for Trump, has given us one very bored winner.

It all feels very Brexity. And we know the leaders of that, didn't last long in the positions they had so ardently claimed to want. They went, first exit stage right, at the first chance they got, and left others can clean up the mess. I'm sure Trump will stick around, but his attention span is low, so please, be quick if you're making a point to this man.

It feels plastic and like a game show with the booby prize being given.

"There, there," wipe your democratic brows. This is a time for sweat and some tears. Who didn't shed a quick drop as they let the news sink in? The feeling I'm left with is one of being conned. We know we have, we feel sick about it, but it feels like all we can do is take the blow and be more careful in the future, more diligent, so this can't happen again. Even Trump has a look of a con man, who just got his biggest break.

It seems the future will be different. More uncertain, more gung-ho, more brash, more trashy and more walls. The lesson today may only be to say to America is this is a wake-up call. History is waiting. History will be watching you!
