At the beginning of the ceremony, acting as the Commander-in-Chief Putin handed over a Gold Star of the Hero of Russia to the family of Major Roman Filipov, the close air support jet pilot who died in Syria, fighting to his last dying breath. Major Filipov was survived by his wife, daughter (a little girl) and sister. His father delivered a short speech about his sons live and death. Putin said: "Major Roman Filipov [...] went into an unequal battle with terrorists. He did not give up, he did not back down. And we are fully entitled to compare him with the heroes who defended the Brest Fortress, Moscow, and Stalingrad."(National awards presented in Kremlin, en.kremlin.ru)

It could mean only one thing; this Russia's Syrian mission shall be continued till the total crushing of the "large, well-equipped terrorist groups" (Putin) in Syria. An overwhelming victory in the Proxy war would restore the only Slavic superpower.
