Lotus has just revealed an update version of its Elise for 2017 along with the special edition, the all-new lightweight Sprint. The car has a new look and new interior look. Every Sprint's lightweight features can be found on the standard Elise Sport and the Elise Sport 220 variants. The standard Elise was already a standard feature but Lotus engineers want to make it lighter, so they cut 1,849-pound down to 1,759 pounds, a 90 pounds loss.
Standard Sprint model will have a 1.6 liter, four cylinder engine and has 134 horsepower to run 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, while the Sprint 220 will have a supercharged 1.8 liter, four cylinder engine and has 217 horsepower and takes 4.1 seconds to reach 60 mph.
The Lotus Elise Sprint models will not be available in the United States. It will arrive in showrooms this spring at Lotus' British home market. The price will start at £32,200.
Which part of Elise did they cut the weight?
From the battery they cut 20 pounds, they changed it with a lightweight lithium-ion pack. They also replaced the seats with carbon fiber race seats saving 13 pounds. Hoop cover and engine cover cut 13 lbs. From the two-piece brake rotors, they cut 9 pounds and wheel design for another 11 pound.
Sprint models interior and exterior design
The front and rear bumpers and taillights are new. The look is distinguished by black exterior trim, Sprint badging and side stripes. The Elise 220 gets an exclusive exhaust system to produce a good sound.
Inside there is a new Exige-type centre console, new Alcantara and a Pagani-style open gate gearshift mechanism. It will also have Bluetooth connectivity but it is optional.
The new Sprint is same as the old model, but it has the huge change with the lightweight feature. Lotus don't just make a luxury car; they make cars to make you love it.
Elise 205 Cup will come along after the launch this April. It is 23kg lighter than the old model. There is no features or performance announced yet, but they said that the price would start at £47,400.
