Nokia is leaving no stones unturned in its critical mission to make 5G technologies a daily experience for everyone in a couple of years, and this vision drives the company’s objective to leverage the potentials of Long Term Evolution (LTE) innovation for achieving efficient mobile broadband, the Internet of Things, and better digital experiences for individuals and commercial organizations.
This development is contained in a press release revealing the launch of Nokia Group Communications for mission-critical LTE public safety portfolio recently.
Nokia is leveraging on successes of 700 LTE operators in 190 countries
Nokia is relying on the integrity of LTE mobile broadband technology to drive public safety networks so that a robust broadband infrastructure could be deployable for real-time video services, disaster recovery and rescue missions, and other mission-critical services.
Nokia disclosed it is tapping into the opportunities opened up by over 700 operators taking advantage of LTE networks in 190 countries – to provide unrivalled mobile broadband experience with excellent data rates and shortest latency times.
The company revealed that “by 2020, LTE is expected to connect more subscribers than any other mobile technology.” And the reason for this is simple: the LTE technology works on licensed and unlicensed spectrum, as well as paired and unpaired spectrum allocations.
Nokia transitions existing 4.5G Pro and 4.9G into the new 5G LTE networks
To this extent, Nokia is looking forward to transitioning into the futuristic 5G network evolution by exploring the potentials of LTE and AirScale through its existing 4.5G Pro and 4.9G technologies. But the company is not looking to jettison 4G networks yet, this will be deployed to power 5G network innovations when it becomes a commercial reality.
The Nokia Group is confident it can deliver on 5G network promises using LTE technologies because of its collaboration with prominent LTE device manufacturers around the world, and its expertise at providing end-to-end interoperability for human-machine interactions.
Nokia says there will be excellent broadband connections for people and things across the world when the technologies go live soon.
Nokia harnesses potentials of LTE networks for VoLTE innovations
In a related development, Nokia is also harnessing the power of LTE for communication via its latest Voice over LTE (VoLTE) innovation. According to the company, the VoLTE technology combines the services of both voice and data networks; and raise profitability while minimizing delivery costs.
“By providing VoLTE, an operator can enhance indoor coverage using Wi-Fi and extend its communication services with WebRTC,” Nokia wrote on its site. “Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) and WebRTC use the same IMS core as VoLTE, enabling the same communication and multimedia services.”
Industry analysts say LTE networks offer better voice and video services, are easy to deploy on LTE/Wi-Fi, their elements operate in telco cloud or same platform, and provides an improved design, planning and integration services.
