A must win match for Pakistan

Coming to the fortunes of both the teams, they are just above Afghanistan on the points table.

South Africa had already defeated Afghanistan while Pakistan also created the biggest upset in the tournament by defeating hosts England in an earlier match of ICC World Cup 2019. The fortunes of many teams which figure in the lower end of the point’s table can change if they win the rest of their matches.

South African Coach Otis Gibson feels that the South African team has got a fighting chance and they will play their natural game. It will be the last World Cup match for most members of the team, and they will be putting everything in the remaining matches to bid goodbye to the game in a suitable manner.

Shoaib Mallik could be replaced

The fortunes of the Pakistani team have fluctuated between the two extremes much akin to their batting and bowling performance on the field.

After a spectacular start, they floundered away their advantage in the next two matches.

They were handed out a crushing 41 run defeat by the Australians followed by a sound drubbing at the hands of arch-rivals India. In both the games, the Pakistani batting collapsed like a house of cards. Among the bowlers, only Mohammad Amir created some impact.

Shoaib Mallik, the most experienced of all the Pakistani players, has also not been able to perform and is most likely o be replaced by Haris Sohail for the Sunday match.
