Pakistan will be up and running when they take on Afghanistan in match 36 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on Saturday, June 29. The match will be played at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds.

Afghanistan has been knocked out of the tournament as they have lost all seven out of their seven matches. Pakistan, on the other hand, still have a good chance to qualify for the semi-finals.

They have won three matches, lost three matches and their other match was cancelled due to rain. Pakistan needs to win both their remaining games to qualify to the knockout stages

Pakistan on track for qualification

Pakistan had a comprehensive victory in the previous match against New Zealand. The fact that the Kiwis were unbeaten until that match makes the victory look much better.

Considering the performance, Pakistan is unlikely to make any changes to their side going into this match. Imad Wasim though bowled only three overs in the previous match, and he could be rested for this match in favour of Asif Ali, add more strength to the batting unit.

Afghanistan finally do away with their openers

Afghanistan did away with their opening batsmen finally in the previous match, and Rahmat Shah along with Gulbadin Naib opened for them.

This allowed them to play Shinwari in the middle order. Afghanistan is expected to continue with the same side for even this match. Interestingly, Afghanistan had earlier beaten Pakistan in the warm-up games of the tournament before the tournament.

The pitch in Leeds hasn't really turned out to be an excellent batting surface, but so has been the case with all the other pitches across the country during this tournament.

The initial swing which bowlers will get might be useful to get some wickets while batsmen will have to thrive on getting runs under their belt. No rain is expected so we can expect the entire 100 overs of play.
