Afghanistan is all set to begin their journey under their new captain Gulbadin Naib when they face Scotland in the first ODI at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.
Unfortunately, Scotland is living up to its weather reputation with rain delaying the toss.
The match will start at 10:00 AM GMT/ 3:30 PM IST. Afghanistan will be treating this series as a practice for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 which will be played in similar conditions in England and Wales. The series consists of two ODIs with the second one being on May 10 in Edinburgh itself.

Naib set to begin his captaincy career
Gulbadin Naib's appointment as the ODI captain was a bit of a shocker considering that Asghar Afghan had led the team successfully in the month leading up to the swap. Senior members like Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan had criticized the move as well.
Keeping the drama, Afghanistan players would be confident of performing well in this series before their ultimate challenge begins at the World Cup.

Gavin Main line for ODI Debut
Uncapped Gavin Main has received ODI call-up for this series.
He will be in line to make his debut when Scotland faces the mighty visitors. Stu Whittingham and Andrian Neill have been dropped out of the squad. Under the captaincy of Kyle Coetzer, the Scots will be highly challenged by the Afghans but surely can make them a surprise.

Not much of International Cricket is being played at Edinburgh in recent times, it's hard to pretend how will the pitch behave.
The last ODI here was between England and Scotland last year when the hosts won a high scoring thriller by just six runs. A total of 736 runs were scored on that day. The weather will be rainy and cloudy throughout the day. The temperatures could go as low as 7°C. Swing bowlers could have a good on this surface.
