Dimuth Karunaratne will lead the new-look Sri Lanka team against South Africa in the first Test starting on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at the Kingsmead Stadium in Durban. The first day's play will start at 10:00 AM SAST, 1:30 PM SLST.

After this game, the two teams will play another Test, which will be followed by five ODIs and three T20Is.

Captaining in a Test match for the first time, Dimuth Karunaratne called correctly at the toss and put South Africa in to bat on a grassy pitch.

Faf du Plessis returns, Mulder called up

Captain Faf du Plessis will return to the Test side after missing the third game against Pakistan last month after getting banned for one-match due to slow over-rate. Zubayr Hamza, who was impressive on his Test debut last month could sit out to accommodate the captain of the side.

Wiaan Mulder has received his maiden call-up to the red-ball Cricket for Proteas but he is likely to sit out. Keshav Maharaj could be brought in at the expense of one pacer, but it can't be predicted who will be that.

Chandimal dropped, Matthews sidelined

Sri Lanka made a bold decision of dropping captain Dinesh Chandimal once again due to his poor form.

Dimuth Karunaratne will lead the side for the two Tests in South Africa. It was also surprising that vice-captain Suranga Lakmal was not considered for captaincy. In the absence of Chandimal, Dhananjaya de Silva could get a nod and the same could be the case with Milinda Siriwardana. Angelo Matthews will continue on the sidelines due to his injury.

The forecast in Durban predicts showers during the course of the five days but it won't be too heavy, as per reported by Cricbuzz. The Kingsmead pitch has a slow nature to it and the spinners could come into play later in the game. The pacer will still have enough to extract from the wicket and it is unlikely to be a very high-scoring game.

South Africa have recently beaten Pakistan in the recently concluded series.
