The Australian team will don a special retro jersey when they face India in the first ODI on Saturday, January 12, 2019. The game will start at 2:20 PM AEST, 7:50 AM IST. The three-match series will begin in Sydney, before moving to Adelaide and Melbourne. The iconic Sydney Cricket Ground will host the first ODI.

India is currently placed at No. 2 in the ICC ODI rankings, while Australia holds the sixth position. Australia will play at home, but they don't start favourites in this series after a horrible two years in the format. India, on the other hand, is coming into this series after beating Windies 3-1 before the Australian tour.

Pandya and Rahul suspended from the ODI series

Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul won't be featuring in ODI series after the BCCI decided to suspend them. The stern action from the board comes after the duo appeared on an Indian talk-show and made several offensive statements. According to the Cricbuzz report, the pair will not be available for Saturday's clash and would be on the sidelines until the board decides on the next course of action.

Pandya's absence could pave the way for Ravindra Jadeja as he is the only other all-rounder in the side. It is expected that India will go in with three frontline pacers: Bhuvaneswar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, and Khaleel Ahmed. The batting unit is solid, and there won't be any changes from the line-up which featured their last ODI series against Windies previous year.

Lyon gets an opportunity ahead of Zampa

The Australian side has made few changes after the series loss against South Africa earlier this summer.

While captain Aaron Finch has kept his spot, Chris Lynn, D Arcy Short, and Travis Head have been dropped from the side. Alex Carey is likely to open the innings as Peter Handscomb and Usman Khawaja were slotted in the XI announced a day before the game.

Surprisingly, Nathan Lyon was picked ahead of Adam Zampa while Peter Siddle is set to return to the one-day format for Australia after eight years.

Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff have been given an opportunity after selectors decided to rest the regular pacers for this series.

The weather in Sydney has been a bit gloomy this week, but the forecast for Saturday predicts a bright and sunny day with no showers at all. In addition to this, a flat pitch at the SCG will kick start the series between these two sides, who have featured in some memorable game in the past few years.
