Lankans face another series loss

New Zealand may have just found the proper balance to their side with the win in the first ODI.

All the pacers went for runs in that game, especially Matt Henry who conceded 87 runs in his ten overs. This might force Kane Williamson to look at Tim Southee as a replacement or Doug Bracewell who is also sitting in the ranks. Rest of the XI should be same without any further changes.

Sri Lanka had an off-day with the ball the other day. The batting showed much promise but failed to seize the game at the right time.

With Angelo Matthews out of this series, there will be a significant responsibility on Dinesh Chandimal to hold the innings together. Dushmantha Chameera could replace Nuwan Pradeep, while rest of the side is unlikely to be tinkered with.

With no rain expected in Mount Maunganui, it is highly likely that we will get another high-scoring thriller.

In the first ODI, a total of 699 runs were scored and if the pitch stays true to its nature, second ODI is expected to be nothing of short of a high-scoring game.

The Lankan players were fined 10 percent of their match fees due to slow over run-rate during the previous ODI. Malinga was fined 20%. They bowled one over short in their allotted time.

If the team repeats this again within the next 12 months, Malinga will face a suspension.

New Zealand has named Mitchell Santner in the 13-member squad for the one-off T20 to be played after the three ODI series. He has recovered from his knee injury. Uncapped Scott Kuggeleijn also features in the NZ squad. Tim Southee will lead the side.

After the one-off T20I, New Zealand will play India in five ODIs and three T20Is starting from January 23.
