South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 78 runs in the 3rd ODI at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele, Kandy on Sunday, August 5, 2018.

South Africa is leading the five-match ODI series 3-0, and this win in Pallekele sealed the series for the Proteas in a wonderful fashion.

Sri Lanka has now lost all their last 11 ODIs against South Africa and would be under tremendous pressure in the build towards to win in the next matches. South Africa will be really pleased with the side's performance especially after the disappointing 2-0 loss in the test series.

Final scorecard

Sri Lanka's batting woes

Sri Lanka's most dependable batters, Upul Tharanga and Kusal Mendis haven't really got going in this series and this has resulted in top order failures. Even though the hosts are expected to go into this game with an unchanged lineup, ESPNcricinfo has reported that Dhananjaya de Silva might find a spot replacing Shehan Jayasuriya. This series is a perfect opportunity for the Lankans to find their best XI for the World Cup next year.

Proteas aiming series win

Even though the South African side has been brilliant in this series, there are some concerns for them. Especially the fact that Aiden Markram hasn't got runs on the entire tour so far. He might still retain his place, as the visitors are likely to play the same line up as the previous game.

ESPNCricinfo reported that the pitch in Pallekele will provide good bounce and swing for the seamers, while the spinners might be useful too. Overall, it is expected that the bowlers will have an advantage on this surface.

The forecast in Kandy isn't that good, as showers are expected on Sunday. Chances are that the showers won't be around for a long time so the game won't get affected that much.
