Pool/Snooker player Jason Lawrence has organised the first National Expo to be held in May in aid of Prostate Cancer UK after being inspired by a Sky Sports short documentary on Soccer Saturday.

He decided to organise an event at the Hazel Grove Snooker Club in Stockport which will run from the 26th to the 27th May with 200 players expected to hopefully turn up.

Those who do play can also try out products such as a new EXCLUSIVE snooker cue soon to be on the market.

Get Involved

Lawrence, 46, from Bolton, who has played snooker for around 35 years and played US pool for the last 10, in an email said: "The National Snooker Expo is the first of its kind in the UK.

I was inspired whilst playing professional American pool in the USA by their vast array of tournaments and expos."

Currently, one man dies every 45 minutes and that's more than 11,000 men every year dying from the disease making Prostate the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK.

Lawrence added: "I am also really chuffed to have the event supported by Prostate Cancer UK. We lost our uncle to this nasty disease over two years ago and the support they have extended to us is exemplary to how charities can make a difference."

Whatever you do, big or small, get out there and help Raise Awareness of this deadly disease.

He added: "Unfortunately, I won't be playing in the event myself as I am the sole promoter and my hands are full all weekend.

But the level of anticipation we are receiving from the public has left me both humbled and filled with excitement!."

Some Stats

Currently, according to some stats, men over 50 and with a history of the disease in the family are more likely to become affected.

It can cause devastating problems such as erectile dysfunction, the very thing that strikes at the heart of being a man.

James Beeby, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, added; "It's fantastic to see Jason has organised the National Snooker Expo to raise funds for PCUK. "It's an incredible effort, one that will help us make Prostate Cancer a disease the next generation of men do not fear."

Stephen Fry, who is also a snooker fan, and a regular attendee of the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield when the annual World Championships come on, admitted recently that he had been receiving treatment for Prostate Cancer in a 13 minute video.

He said the cancer had been aggressive.

The Expo

On the Snooker Expo website, it reads: "The National Snooker Expo 2018 is a corporation lead event designed to bring both players, enthusiasts and the billiards industry under one roof."

It adds: "The N.S.E will have you and your friends wanting more and more snooker. With fun packed events and snooker equipment to test before you buy, makes this a unique public experience."
