Manchester United are plotting a sensational new club record bid for Lazio midfielder #Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to The Express.

The Red Devils believe a figure in the range of £95 million is enough to secure the signature of the midfielder. This will exceed the club record £89.3 million fee United paid to Juventus back in 2016 for French international Paul Pogba.

Sergej Milinkovic

The Serbian international joined The Biancocelesti from Belgian club Genk back in 2015 for a fee of £16m and it won't be a smooth transfer negotiation for United as club president Claudio Lotito is demanding £100 million for his talisman.

Several European clubs have registered their interest to sign the 22-year old including United's title rivals Manchester City & Serie A giants Juventus but United are currently leading the race to sign him.

With contract rebel Marouane Fellaini most likely to leave Old Trafford in summer as a free agent, Jose Mourinho is keen to add Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as his replacement. Sergej just signed a new contract earlier this year but it wouldn't stop the Portuguese manager to make a bid for him. This isn't the first time man united tried to sign a player from Lazio. The Red Devils have been heavily linked with Felipe Anderson during Louis van Gaal's reign but the deal didn't come to fruition. Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal made a staggering attack against his good friend Jose Mourinho by branding his football as "boring" after the Red Devils suffered a 1 - 2 defeat against City at Old Trafford on Sunday.
