Sergio Aguero's projected desire to return to Independiente once his current Manchester City contract expires have been reiterated with the Argentine striker claiming that the "idea" was indeed to return home to play for his formative club once more, although it's unclear to when the 29-year-old's standing deal actually terminates, with confusion surrounding the matter evidently looming large.

Homecoming

Aguero began his professional career at Independiente in 2003 and moved to La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid in 2006, the club where 'Kun' made his reputation as a deadly attacker known to Manchester City, who purchased the striker from 'Atleti' in 2011.

Dispatching the last minute goal against Queens Park Rangers that snatched the Premier League title out of the hands of local rivals Manchester United in 2012 on the final day of the campaign, Aguero has become a beloved club legend, although he certainly knows and remembers where he came from before he embarked on the road to stardom and fame at the Etihad.

Speaking in Argentine to TyC Sports, the 29-year-old revealed that the "idea has always been to go back to Independiente" once his time at the Citizens was up, with club boss Pep Guardiola 'thinking' that Aguero had signed a contract extension at the club which would see him stay on English shores until 2020. Although Aguero is also unsure, stating recently that he will have to "check again" as he believes that it is in-fact 2019 when his contract finally comes to a close.

Record breaker

Netting a goal during a 4-2 victory against SSC Napoli in the Champions League on November 1, Aguero broke City's goal-scoring record with his 178th for the club, surpassing former longstanding record holder Eric Brook, who registered 177 strikes to his name between 1927 and 1940.

Since City's romp in Naples, Aguero has added another goal to his ever-growing tally, after slotting a penalty past Arsenal's Petr Cech in the Premier League at home, a goal which helped contribute towards the 'Sky Blues' 3-1 scalp of the Gunners. City are now 8 points clear at the summit of the domestic standings and are yet to lose a competitive match in the 2017-18 campaign, and if Aguero continues to fire on all cylinders for the remainder of the season, 'Pep' and his prolific set-up could be on their way to their third top-flight title, though there remains a long, arduous road ahead of them, with many menacing obstacles and banana skins waiting to derail their surge towards supremacy.
