More than 48 hours the whole world speaks only about Barcelona – PSG and the greatest comeback in history ever. A miracle from Nou Camp is something you can’t see every day but football remembers other crazy games, too. Here are shortlisted of some (in)possible comebacks.
Liverpool 3 AC Milan 3 Champions League final 2005
The night which born the legend of Steve G, Carragher and other Liverpool heroes.
Maybe this is the game Carlo Ancelotti didn’t want to remember. champions league final turned into a nightmare for the reds after Milan lead 3-0 at the half time. Some Liverpool fans had started to leave the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul after goals from Paolo Maldini and two from Hernan Crespo. At the half-time Milan celebrate in the locker room, Ancelotti congratulated the players but Liverpool didn’t stop to believe. The fans sang “You’ll never walk alone” and that inspired Gerrard and co. Steven Gerrard, Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso scored for the Reds and the game went into penalties. There the hero was Jerzy Dudek who stole the show with his 'spaghetti legs' and saved shots from Andrea Pirlo and Andrei Shevchenko to complete the 'Miracle of Istanbul'.
Manchester United – Bayern Munich 2:1 CL final 1999
When we talk about greatest comebacks we have to mention the king of comebacks – Sir Alex Ferguson. The Scot inspire Manchester United for its greatest match ever in history. The Red Devils won his first European cup in more than 30 years with a great win against Bayern.
Ironically the game was at Nou Camp where more than 90 000 people saw the impossible. Mario Basler gave the early lead to Bayern with a low free kick. Experienced German squad lead by world cup winner Lothar Matthaus looked sure winner but Fergie didn’t mean that.
He brought from the bench Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the last 20 minutes. Although United attacked all the time, they can’t go past Oliver Kahn.
In the added time Red Devils won a corner, Beckham cross the ball Dwight Yorke put the ball back towards the crowded area, Germans failed to clear sufficiently and after melee Sheringham levelled. 30 seconds later United won a corner again. Beckham crossed, Sheringham nodded the ball down across the face of goal. Solskjær reacted fastest and scored the winner.
Hungary 2 West Germany 3 1954 World Cup final
Many of us weren't born when this happened but we listen a lot from our fathers and grandfathers. The Germans had been destroyed 8-3 in the group stages by a Hungary team unbeaten in 30 odd matches and the clear favourites for the final. The game appeared to be going to script when Ferenc Puskas and Zoltan Czibor put Hungary 2-0 up inside eight minutes.
However, what became known as the 'Miracle of Bern' was completed by a dramatic comeback in the rain by a German side that acted as a focal point for post-Second World War recovery for the nation.
Newcastle 4 Arsenal 4 Premier League 2011
This game is very similar to Barcelona vs PSG. Yes, the recent match was in Champions League, but at Newcastle vs Arsenal, there were many referee mistakes.
Arsenal took a comfortable four-goal lead at the half time after goals from Walcott, Djorou and two from Robin van Persie. The Gunners looked sure winners but everything turn upside down after Joey Barton provoked Abou Diaby. Barton brutally fouled Diaby but the Frenchman saw the red after bust-up. Then Barton scored twice from the spot and Leon Best also hit the target. 3 minutes before the end Cheik Tiote levelled with a screamer from long range.
