Kohli was the main target for Australia against india in the recently concluded four match test series. India won the fourth test and won the Border-Gavaskar trophy 2-1. Interestingly Kohli was not playing the match and Rahane was the captain for team India. He had scored double centuries in the home matches prior to Australia series.

Kohli had an off season for India

Kohli did not set stage on fire with his batting in this series. He scored only 46 runs in three test matches with an average of just 9. His highest score was just 15. India did shrug of the belief that was creeping in opposition teams that the team was dependant on one person.

K.L. Rahul was at his fluid best against Australia and he looked convincing every time he came to bat. The highlight of his batting was that he was scoring runs at a fast pace and was taking attack to the opposition right from the word go.

He never bogged down and helped the team cause. Pujara was another batsman who shouldered responsibility. He was more of calm type who kept on accumulating runs with defiance. He had answers to every fiery spell unleashed on him by the Australian bowlers and he was the mainstay for Indian batting. Rahane had a mixed series and Karun needs to have a big knock once again. Ashwin as a batsman needs to improve. Saha, the wicket keeper batsmen held his head high and made sure that lower middle order dictum was well executed.

Jadega was another batsman who shone well for India.

Kohli and India had quality bowlers

India had good bowlers who kept up the pressure on Australia. Ishanth really bowled his heart out and made sure that he was assertive and aggressive. Reverse swing came to play from the balls of Umesh Yadav and he had some well-directed bouncers.

Ashwin had a bad test series considering the standards that he has set but that does not mean that he was way off target. He had some good spells throughout the test series.

Kuldip Yadav did bowl well in his debut match at Dharamsala. Jadega as usual was accurate and was speedy through air. He made sure that the rough was always exploited well.

Bhuvaneswar Kumar played one test and he was also lethal. The way he set up Warner in the fourth test match second innings was a real gem. Kohli would be mighty pleased with the effort put in by his bowlers.

Kohli and India can be assured of a good performance abroad. The team has withstood the pressure of a lengthy home season in 2016-17.
