Andy Murray survived a match point to win 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 against his opponent Grigor Dimitrov, in a thrilling three – hour match, which won him a place in the quarter-finals on Friday.

 

The world number two struggled right from the start, as he was broken in the very first game and lost the opening set.  The 24 - year-old Bulgarian was then ahead in the second set, as he displayed some remarkable Tennis, but the set went into a tie-break, which the Scot managed to win.

Dimitrov then let a 5-2 lead in the final set slip away from him in a dramatic finale, when the British number one managed to produce a spectacular comeback and win the decider 7-5. He will now face French Richard Gasquet, the world number 13.

 

World number one Novak Djokovic earned his place in the quarter - finals with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 victory over the 24-year – old Belgian David Goffin. The world number 14 managed to brake the Serb five time and achieved a 3-0 lead in the final set, but Djokovic then won six games in a row. He will now meet the world number five Stan Wawrinka who beat the big-serving 36 year-old Croat Ivo Karlovic 6-7, 7-6, 7-6.

 

Elsewhere, the world number three, Roger Federer, made his way to the last eight by beating the South African Kevin Anderson 6-1, 6-1 in just 55 minutes. The world number 15 won only four points in the opening four games, as the Swiss displayed a stunning performance and dominated on serve. Federer lost his world number two position to Murray only a week ago and he is now 595 points behind the Scot. The Swiss will now face the 33-year-old Spanish Feliciano Lopez, who defeated the world number eight Rafal Nadal in a dramatic 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 match that lasted almost two and a half hours.

 

Other quarter-finalists are Alexandr Dolgopolov and Tomáš Berdych. The Ukrainian, currently 66 seeded, defeated Jerzy Janowicz 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, while Berdych, the world number six, beat the 33-year-old Spanish Tommy Robredo 6-0, 6-1.

 

The quarter - finals look promising; whoever wins the Cincinnati Open will have a huge confidence boost, going into the US Open in New York, which starts on 31 August.
