Sunday night's Game five finished with Golden State's victory of 104-91, and their overall lead 3-2 in the series against Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Warriors from Oakland, California, who are the Western Conference champions, have been the favourite to win the NBA Finals. However, the Cavs from Cleveland, Ohio, the Eastern Conference winners, have demonstrated a remarkable resilience, with their star player LeBron James being in the middle of one of the most exceptional performances in NBA Finals history.
Game one, played 10 days ago, was a home win 108-100 by the Warriors, but it could have easily gone to the Cavs, with James scoring 44 points.
The 30 year-old Cleveland legend, who is playing in his fifth consecutive NBA Finals series, produced a display of the highest calibre in the Game two thriller, that was played at Quicken Loans Arena; James finished the match with 39 points and hit a triple-double to lead his team to a 95-93 victory, and level the NBA Finals at 1-1 in the series.
Game three was played in Cleveland on Wednesday, 10th June, and the home team won 96-91, to go 2-1 in the series. The fans were jubilant as their favourite player hit 40 points, and, with a pair of free throws, he put the Cavs only two wins away from becoming the champions for the first time since 1964.
But then, Cleveland were beaten 103-82 by the Warriors in Game four, played at the Oracle Arena on Friday night, as the home side evened out the series 2-2.
James only scored 20 points, before a foul caused him to fall and collide with a court-side camera; he needed stitches to a head injury.
Game five was played on Sunday night at the Oracle Arena. Although James scored his second triple-double of the 2015 Finals and recorded 40 points, his team was still beaten 104-91 by the Warriors, as they took a 3-2 series lead.
The Cavs now need two wins to become the NBA Champions. Game six, that will be played tonight, Tuesday 16th June at 9pm E.T, is crucial for both sides, as the first team to win four games in the seven-game championship will be the NBA champion.
