18 year-old James Cahill beat multiple former Champion Ding Junhui in a shock loss in the last 32 of the UK Championships in York. The teenager came through a gritty battle, edging the twice Champion Juhnhui in a thrilling deciding frame; where he showed a real competitive edge to match the Chinese man, and claw back the frame when it looked as if Junhui had seized the initiative.

The youngster from Blackpool looked like he had the match under control; he was leading 5-1, when Ding fought back, winning four frames in a row. Ding was hanging on for his life in the 10th frame, requiring three snookers, but managed to get himself out of a tricky situation to force a deciding frame.

It was a scrappy final frame in which neither man looked like they wanted to win; Ding looked like he had seized his chance to win before Cahill fought back, and eventually took his chance to book his place in the last 16. Cahill will play Mark Davis in the fourth round, after Davis defeated Joe Perry in another final set thriller.

Rod Lawler defeated Mark Allen 6-4; in the other evening session clash, to set up a tie with Judd Trump, the winner from 2011.

Scotsman Stephen Maguire, beat Mark Williams 6-2, which was a shock win as this didn't reflect the recent form of the two players. Maguire will play Ireland's David Morris next.

An injured Ronnie O'Sullivan took to the table in a pair of more comfortable trainers, which helped him to a comprehensive victory over Ben Woolaston. After sailing through his last 32 match 6-2, O'Sullivan was in a more jovial mood; he will meet Matthew Selt in the fourth round.

In the other last 32 match, Scotland's Graeme Dott whitewashed Robert Milkins, to take a place in the fourth round of the 2014 UK Championships.

Dott made three centuries on his way to victory, whilst his opponent could only manage a meagre 28 points over the whole match. He will play Australian Neil Robertson after he beat Englishman Peter Ebdon 6-2 with some superb break-building.

20 year-old Joe Walker was narrowly defeated by 38 year-old Stuart Bingham, after the latter came from 3-0 down, to seal his place in the fourth round. The world number 105, appeared to be in control before Bingham fought back to take the lead in the match at 5-4. Bingham will play Ricky Walden in the fourth round.
