Interview

Tell us how Miss Kiddy formed?

Miss Kiddy and the Cads is the brainchild of husband and wife team Abi and Ross ('Miss Kiddy' and ‘The Boss’ on piano), the rest of the band are old friends and colleagues who we have been playing with for many years in various different bands and on various different projects from making TV theme tunes together (Do You Know on CBeebies) to playing in Caro Emerald's band.

How many gigs have you played together?

Miss Kiddy was formed in April 2016, so we're in our third year together now. We have performed many shows at venues like Pizza Express Jazz Club and Crazy Coqs plus lots of festivals such as Camp Bestival, Underbelly, Southbank, Henley Festival, Twinwood and Goodwood Revival. On top of all this, we are often booked for private events from weddings to birthday parties all over the world. We travelled to India this year to play for a 40th Birthday in Delhi and in January we go to Bangkok for another exotic event - we're also bringing in the New year at The Dorchester Hotel which will be very glamorous.

Where did your love of vintage come from?

Abi (Miss Kiddy) has been a lover of all things vintage for a long time and has always been a huge fan of Marilyn Monroe and her style and stage persona.

The vintage style of music came first for the band, and so it made sense for the style and whole show to be based in the "glory days of Hollywood" setting. The vintage style of the band soon became essential to the story of the characters and gave the show a definite unique look and feel.

Tell us about your vintage Christmas gig, what songs will you sing etc.?

We are so excited to perform "A Vintage Christmas" show at Leicester Square Theatre this Sunday, 8th December. We have wanted to do the show in a proper theatre setting since we began, as the story running through the show lends itself perfectly to a theatrical setting. As this is a festive show it will feature some of the best "classic" Miss Kiddy songs such as David Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’ and Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’ but these will be mixed in with our own take on some festive favourites some of which we performed recently Live on ITV’s "This Morning and Loose Women."

Plus we have the added fun of the brilliant Twin Swing dancers who will be supporting us and performing some of their own routines. There might well be a surprise or two in the show as well!
