2018 saw Veganuary have its greatest success to date, with around 150,000 people taking part in the 31-day challenge. Of course, one of the key objectives for those behind the Veganuary trend is to (hopefully) get as many people as possible to ditch the animal products and go on to live a cruelty-free lifestyle.

Being Vegan has never been easier, with chain restaurants up and down the high street offering a wide range of options, and some even have a separate vegan menu.

Of course, there are also some great restaurants that are 100% Vegan that I will be listing, but these will generally be limited to a single city.

Whetherspoons

The budget-friendly pub chain can almost be considered an embodiment of modern British culture, whether it's for pre-drinking before and night on the town or Thursday night Curry Club (a personal favourite among my friendship group) it seems that we just cannot avoid this place (nor do we really want to).

The good news is that Whetherspoons is actually a little gem for affordable, but tasty, vegan options. As mentioned, Thursday curry club is a feature of the pub chain, and it also a night that can be very Vegan-friendly.

The sweet potato, chickpea and spinach curry is suitable for vegans. As are the side options of onion bhajis, vegetable samosas and Bombay potatoes.

I normally spend around £9.25 on a curry club meal which includes a large curry, a drink, and extra onion bhajis (you can never have too many).

The curry is also available on all other days of the week (the sides are Thursdays only) and there is also a 5 bean chilli which is vegan-friendly.

Wagamama

Wagamamas is also another high street favourite, and the Japanese-style food chain launched a vegetarian and vegan menu just a few months back, so you can just ask for this in store.

My personal favourites are the yasai steamed gyozas, yasai samla curry and the pink guava and passion fruit sorbet.

Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut is another chain restaurant that has recently caught onto the growing demand for vegan products and food options, adding Violife vegan cheese to their menu back in December. There is a £1 supplement for including the cheese on your pizza, but can be added to any of the vegetarian pizzas (including a create your own, which I tend to do) and I've always found there to be a generous helping of cheese on the pizza.

Vegans can also order onion rings or fries as sides, and much of the salad bar is also vegan.

FED by Water

I couldn't make a post about vegan food and not include FED by Water. I got to try out this place on a recent visit to London with my fiance. I'd heard a lot of hype about this place on social media and wanted to see if it lived up to it, and it most certainly did.

FED by water is an Italian, completely vegan restaurant located in Dalston, and is just a short walk from both Dalston Junction and Dalston Kingsland stations, as well as being well served by bus if that's how you prefer to travel.

The menu has a wide selection to suit all tastes and preferences, with options including a 'cheese' platter, pizza, calzone and pasta. For starter, I had the 'cheesy' garlic bread and for the main course, I had the carbonara, which I'd also heard a lot of buzz about on social media.

The place was also very reasonably priced given that it was in London and the quality of food that was being served, with the bill coming to just under £20 for two courses.

Temple of Seitan

Temple of Seitan is another popular London-based vegan eatery. It can basically be described as a vegan's alternative to KFC, with 'seitan' a popular base for meat replacement, being coated with a KFC-style coating in various different forms making up the vast majority of the menu.

There are two locations, one in Hackney and one in Camden, I personally recommend Camden as it's a slightly bigger store with seating available. However, one thing that will be experienced at both locations is a queue. It is not uncommon for queues to form well out of the door due to its huge popularity among the vegan community. However, the queueing is totally worth it and I definitely recommend trying this place out.

Anna-Loka

Anna-Loka is a Cardiff based vegan cafe/restaurant. This place was the first Vegan cafe to open in Wales and it certainly lives up to its popularity, options range from salads and juices for when you're on the hunt for something more healthy or veggie burgers or 'tofish' (fish made from tofu) if you fancy something a bit more 'classic' and indulgent.

They also do a fantastic range of vegan cakes, etc. for dessert.

The Lounges

The Lounges are a chain of bar/restaurants across the UK. They, like many of the places I have mentioned, have a separate Vegan menu with a wide range of options on them, including tapas and burgers. The vegan breakfast from here is definitely one of my favourites on the high street and includes falafel balls, spinach, roasted peppers etc.
