Shahid Kapoor shared the trailer of his forthcoming Film “Batti Gul Meter Chalu” and was on high spirits. Shahid dons the role of a lawyer in the film and takes up the cudgels on behalf of his friend played by Divyendu Sharma who commits suicide after he got an electricity bill of a few million.

Shahid dons the role of a fighter aka Akshay Kumar who played a crusader for building toilets in villages in the film “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.” Shahid is fighting against the corrupt electricity distribution companies who try to cover their inadequacies and loss by billing consumer’s exorbitant amounts much beyond their actual consumption.

Second film with a social message

The film is directed by Mr. Narayan Singh who had earlier directed "Toilet: Ek Prem Katha," a movie with a social message attached to it. The movie is set in a small town in Uttarakhand and talks about the life of a carefree man Shahid Kapoor who does not do anything worthwhile even though he is a lawyer.

Shraddha Kapoor plays his love interest and the opposite lawyer. Then there is Divyendu Sharma, a close friend of both the lovebirds. Divyendu starts a factory and is shocked when he is served with a 1.5 lakh electricity bill. After exhausting all avenues for help, a frustrated Divyendu commits suicide.

Shahid Plays The Crusader

Shahid is shell-shocked by the demise of his close friend and takes the onus upon him to get justice for Divyendu and hundreds of other helpless consumers in the court.

As he delves deeper, he unearths links of corruption which runs from the very bottom to the top echelons of the power distribution company. He is ably helped by Shraddha Kapoor. Yami Gautam plays the antagonist and represents the power company.

Another film from the director of 'Toilet Ek Prem Katha'

Shree Narayan Singh is known to amalgamate seamlessly social issues with entertainment, and it will be his second film on a social subject.

Shahid and Shraddha share fantastic chemistry, and we have seen this in their earlier work in “Haider.” The film also stars Farida Jalal, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Sudhir Pandey in supporting roles.
