Next year’s Brit Awards are already shaping up to be a potential battle between two female singing superstars. With the confirmation that the late Amy Winehouse has been posthumously included in two categories for the annual Music celebration, we could well witness a battle royal including the lady of the moment Adele.
Documentary released this year
She may have tragically died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 aged just 27, but the enduring memory of Winehouse’s soulful tones lives on through the legacy of her astonishing musical contribution.
The British public has been reminded of her amazing talent this year with the release of “Amy”, a heartwarming and award-winning documentary of her career and life.
As a consequence, Grammy Award-winning Winehouse has been added to the longlists for both Best British Female and also Best British album for the soundtrack to the film. Should she come out on top, it would be a fitting tribute and would back up her previous Brit Award success from 2007 when she was named Best British Female.
Adele should be hot favourite
Adele is likely to be the hot favourite in both categories though after an astonishing and triumphant comeback this year.
Her single ‘Hello’ was an instant smash and her third album “25” is poised to be named as the UK’s best seller of 2015 by a considerable margin. It already holds the distinction of being the UK’s most downloaded number one album in history. She has also announced her first UK tour in four years.
Performing live at the O2
The 27-year-old London-born Adele has also been announced as one of the acts who will perform live at the Brits, repeating that duty from 2012. More names are expected to be added in the next few weeks. She is clearly enjoying being back in the spotlight after time away from the music industry, and was a two-time winner at the recent BBC Music Awards.
With three Brit Awards already safely in her possession, there is every reason to expect more to come her way after the 2016 ceremony at the O2 in London has been completed.
Ant and Dec back as hosts
The annual shindig that is the Brits will yet again be hosted by the popular duo of Ant and Dec on 24th February 2016 and will be aired live on ITV. Although the Geordie pair were originally only intending to host the Show last year, they enjoyed it so much that they had a change of heart and were said to be “thrilled to be doing it again.”
One award that has already been decided is the critics’ choice, with Jack Garratt holding off the challenge from two other up and coming artists in the shape of Izzy Bizu and Frances. He will have to wait along with the other category winners for the ceremony itself before receiving his award though.
The rest of us will have to wait until 14th January for confirmation of the acts that will compete in the remaining categories.
