Many people blame fatigue for everything that goes wrong during the day including irritability, and concentration problems, according to Psychology Today. Although fatigue may indeed produce some of these consequences, the exclusive attribution of all daytime impairments to tiredness is erroneous.

When feeling impaired, ask yourself: “Could something else bother me and affect my daytime functioning?” Most likely, you will find that you worry about other things in life (e.g., relationships, work, health) which may affect your mood and reduce your energy.

Instead of turning to pills to get vitamin D, examine other possible sources of daytime impairments. Once again, it is important to recognize that fatigue does, indeed, have a negative impact on daytime functioning and quality of life. However, it is equally important not to have a single explanation for those deficits.

Don't catastrophise

Sometimes worrying turns into catastrophic thinking. Some people are concerned that weariness may have serious consequences on their health, others consider that exhaustion might deteriorate their physical appearance, and still others see fatigue as an indication of complete loss of control in their lives. Psychology Today noted, "Catastrophizing is also called magnifying.

This is a good way to think of it, because it emphasizes how we often magnify things way out of proportion, dreaming up nightmare scenarios that we believe without question."

Quite frankly, it is often those types of concerns about the perceived/potential consequences of drowsiness, rather than fatigue per se, which prompt people to seek treatment.

Check with yourself to see if you have a tendency to exaggerate the real impact of tiredness on your life. If so, always place things in perspective and ask yourself, “What is the worst that can happen if I feel tired today? Also, remind yourself that weariness can be very unpleasant but it is not necessarily dangerous!

Don't exaggerate the importance of rest

Some individuals reduce significantly their activity level because of a lack of energy. For those people, being well-rested is the essence of their existence. Their entire life is organised around rest. Social, occupational, and family activities are contingent upon sleep quality and relaxation. If they feel weary, they call in sick or cancel scheduled commitments. Unless they feel refreshed, these individuals can no longer enjoy life and keep up with their obligations and leisure activities. As a result, they dwell on the fact they have not recharged their batteries and worry about the upcoming day. Although rest is an essential ingredient of a good quality of life, do not give it more importance than it deserves and resume your daily activities.

Shift your attention and challenge some of your reasons for reducing activities or social contact with friends and family members. Stop viewing yourself as a victim of something you have no control over.
