'The Man in the High Castle' - Prime Original series - Season 4 coming in the autumn
Based on the novel by Philip K. Dick, the series has already had three seasons, which are available to stream, with season 4 coming soon. It tells the story of an alternative timeline where Germany and Japan won the war, and split up America between them. Eventually we find there are several alternative worlds where things play out differently every time. The fourth and final season will show the battle between the Resistance and the powers that be, and may see the end of all worlds.
'The Expanse' - Prime Original up to season 3
Originally airing on SyFy, “The Expanse” now belongs to Amazon and was a good choice. The series is based on the book series by James SA Corey, the show involves several warring factions – Earth, Mars and what is known as The Belt. Mars is a militarized nation, while The Belt is an underclass of working men and scavengers. There’s also something known as the “protomolecule,” which appears to be alien tech. Watch the teaser for season 4 below.
'Donnie Darko' (2001)
This perennial favourite can be watched over and over again. It involves Jake Gyllenhaal as a troubled youth and his experiences involving weird science, giant bunnies, superheroes, wormholes and even Patrick Swayze.
'Marjorie Prime' (2017)
This one is likely to also become a perennial movie. It features John Ham, Lois Smith, Geena Davis and Tim Robbins in a story about a service providing holograms of deceased loved ones. This allows a widow to virtually be with her husband, but it also becomes a problem when a man comes face to face with a younger version of his late father-in-law.
'Westworld' (1973)
Anyone totally confused by the recent series version of Michael Crichton's “Westworld” should see the original, classic film from 1973. Starring Yul Brynner, it tells the story of two guys who visit the latest computer driven resort for a little fun. Things don’t go as planned, when the lifelike robots stop responding to programming.
