Ajith Kumar is a top Tamil actor who is also a racing car enthusiast and has participated in MRF Racing events. This puts the Tamil start in a different league compared to other stars. Thala Ajith has now starred in a remake of the hit Mumbai Film "Pink." The Mumbai film starred Amitabh Bacchan and upcoming actress Tapase Pannu. The role of Amitabh is essayed by Ajith and by all accounts he has done a splendid job. The film "Nerkonda Paaravai" which in English means the direct gaze was released on 10 August and has stormed the box office. The film is produced by Boney Kapoor, the husband of film star Sri Devi who died in mysterious circumstances in Dubai.
By all accounts, "Nerkinda Paarvai" is unstoppable at the box office. India today has reported that the year 2019 is turning out to be a memorable outing for Thala Ajith.
The star had started the year with the massive success of "Viswasam" at the box office. This film more than held its own against superstar Rajnikanth's "Petta." which was also a hit and salvaged the careers of two actresses. Now, his second film for the year "Nerkonda Paarvai" is on its way to beat Viswasam's collection. The film directed by H Vinoth is the official Tamil remake of the Hindi film "Pink." The film stresses women's safety, consent, and patriarchy.
Box office
Trade circles have after evaluation of box office receipts informed that the film collected over Rs 30 crores in two days in Tamil Nadu alone.
This is reported by IBTimes. The film is also receiving an excellent response in Karnataka and Bangalore is informing of full houses. The film was released simultaneously in the United Arab Emirates which has a sizeable Tamil diaspora and in the first two days has collected 2.10 crore (245,000 GBP). The film follows the Hindi version faithfully and revolves around three girls who are molested and one is charged with attempt to murder and the other two accused of prostitution.
It brings out the double standard in Indian society where women are not expected to live the way they want to.
Success
The film is also a success in the USA where it has collected Rs 33 lakh ( 38.6 thousand GBP) much more than the Telugu film Nagarjuna's "Manmadhudu" The Telugu film was pegged at Rs 25 lakh (appx 29000GBP). The film has slick direction and along with Ajith stars Shraddha Srinath, Abirami Venkatachalam, and Andrea Tariand.
The last-named had also starred in the Hindi film "Pink" but was retained for the Tamil remake. Amitabh's wife is played by Vidya Balan. Despite these stars, the film runs on the shoulders of Ajith who matches the histrionic ability of India's greatest actor Amitabh Bacchan.
"Nerkonda Paarvai" had run into some controversy just before its slated release. A few important scenes from Ajith's film had been leaked online. This has not affected the success of the film which is a tribute to Ajith and his acting ability.
