HMD Global was expected to unveil the Nokia 9 alongside the Nokia 8, but it didn't happen. Now the smartphone manufacturer is expected to unveil the Device at IFA 2017. The smartphone is said to feature similar specifications as the Nokia 8 but with a larger form factor and higher screen-to-body ratio. Nokia 9 will compete with the flagship devices like upcoming Apple iPhone 8, Samsung Galaxy S8, LG V30 and Galaxy Note 8.

Design of the phone

Design wise, the Nokia 9 will have an all-metal body and is expected to be IP68 dust and water resistant to 1.5 m deep for up to 30 minutes. The device is said to have narrow bezels top to bottom.

Features and specs of the upcoming flagship

The smartphone is expected to sport a 5.5-inch Quad-HD display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and will be protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5.


It has been tipped to be powered by a Snapdragon 835 chip coupled with 6GB of Ram and Adreno 540 GPU. It will run the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS with a custom skin atop. The smartphone will have provision for dual-SIM cards and will also sport a microSD card for memory expansion.

The device was recently spotted on GeekBench revealing that the device would be backed by 8GB of RAM. Notably, the US FCC listing of the smartphone hinted that the device will not come in a 4GB RAM variant.

Nokia is also allegedly incorporating the Always-On display to its flagship. The device will also retain the 3.5mm audio jack and the home button housed at the bottom of the front panel with an integrated fingerprint sensor.

There are rumours of an iris scanner as well. Other connectivity options will include a USB Type-C port, Bluetooth, WiFi. Just like the Nokia 8, the Nokia 9 is also speculated to feature the 360-degree Ozo audio recording, which creates a surround sound effect when a user is recording audio.

The leaked video shared on Instagram hints that the device will come equipped with a dual camera setup, with a 22MP Carl Zeiss sensor and a monochrome sensor, while a 12MP sensor will power the front facing shooter as well. A 3800mAh battery is tipped to fuel the Nokia 9, with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0.

Expected price of the device

According to a report by NokiaPowerUser, the Nokia 9 is expected to be priced around EUR 749 in European markets, $699 in the United States.
