The time has nearly arrived for the technology giant Apple to unveil the new version of its flagship smartphone. The company will celebrate 10 years of the iPhone with the advent of a special edition dubbed the Iphone 8, alongside the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus.

Design of the phone

Apple is planning a major design overhaul for the iPhone 8. The mock-ups are already doing the rounds in the media mill, revealing the smartphone in almost every possible way. The device is reported to sport a bezel-less OLED panel using the whole of the screen real estate. The company is most likely to eliminate the home button, while a new security feature will enable users to unlock their phones using facial recognition technology. The rear panel will feature a dual camera setup placed vertically, unlike the previous iPhones.

Specs of the device

The iPhone 8 is rumored to boast a 5.8-inch ProMotion display seen on the new Ipad Pro launched earlier this year. The smartphone is also said to have a dedicated Apple Neural Engine chip to handle artificial intelligence (AI). The company will most likely incorporate a new A11 processor (unannounced) for the iPhone 8. Reports suggest that Taiwan’s TSMC will be supplying the chips that will be built on a 10nm built process. The smartphone is also speculated to pack-in wireless charging capabilities.

Optics wise, the iPhone 8 is said to bring a "revolutionary" front camera that will have 3D-sensing capabilities allowing users to make use of augmented reality in a much diverse way.

The camera app is also said to support a 'SmartCam' mode which will allow the device to detect and automatically optimise the tuning for better photos.

Price of the phone

Apple's iPhone 8 will surely come with a hefty price. Latest reports suggest that the smartphone will be Apple's most expensive device to date, exceeding the $1,000 mark. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has hinted that the company won't be launching the Rose Gold variant for the iPhone 8. Instead, the phone is expected to ship in Gold, Silver and Black colour variants.

It seems that the iPhone 8 will be launched on September 12th or 13th, while the release date is slated to be September 22nd or 23rd. There were reports that Apple might delay the launch till early 2018, but Apple CEO Tim Cook has assured something 'new' for the fanatics this September.

We will have to wait until Apple makes an official announcement about the smartphone. There are chances we might see something different when the iPhone 8 sees the light of day.
